Abstract/Summary
A geophysical survey was undertaken to assess the subsurface archaeological potential of a c. 11 ha area of land at Peafield Lane, Mansfield Woodhouse. A fluxgate gradiometer survey was successfully completed across the survey area. The geophysical survey has detected anomalies of an agricultural, natural, and undetermined origins. No anomalies of an archaeological origin have been detected. Historical agricultural activity has been identified as former field boundaries present on historical OS maps. Anomalies of a natural origin were identified, possibly related to former channels or waterways of the river to the south. Anomalies of an undetermined origin were also detected, likely of an agricultural, natural or modern origin, but an archaeological origin cannot be ruled out entirely. Modern disturbance was limited to an underground service.
