Abstract/Summary

Numerous buildings and structures associated with coalmining are now redundant due to the contraction of the coal industry in England. This book contains photographs of the coal industry architecture in order to maintain a comprehensive record of the buildings and structures in the industry. Structures contained in this book include pit-head baths; colliery headgear; model housing; and miner's memorials. These pictures aim to illustrate the full impact the industry had on its environment. The supporting text explains the history and development of the different building types
