Description
2 houses, now architects' offices. Late C17, with late C19 and late C20 alterations. Brick with stone dressings and hipped and gabled concrete tile and pantile roofs. First floor band, quoins, wooden modillioned eaves, gutter on brackets, single coped gable, 2 ridge and single gable stacks. 2 storeys plus attics; 4 window range. Windows are mainly glazing bar sashes. 3 gable headed and 1 segment headed sashes. Above, 4 hipped dormers with 2-light casements. Below, to left, off-centre wooden doorcase with curved brackets to flat hood and fielded 6-panel door with fanlight, flanked by single gable headed sashes. To right, a similar doorcase with the fanlight inscribed "Transport House", flanked by single late C19 canted bay windows with brick plinths and plain sashes. 3 window left side, to Town Wharf, has fenestration arranged 2:1. To left, 2 sashes and to right a single larger sash, all segment headed. Above, 2 hipped dormers with Yorkshire sashes. Below, 3 gable headed sashes. Interior has a late C17 oak stair with with splat balusters, moulded handrail, and square newels with capitals and drops. Principal rafter roof with butt purlins and collars, mainly re-used. (EH)
