Nos. 1 and 3 (Transport House), late C18 red brick. Inside, a good C17 staircase and two early C18 panelled rooms. (1)
2 houses, now architects' offices. Late C17, with late C19 and late C20 alterations. Interior has a late C17 oak stair. (2)
35 timber samples were taken producing 28 dateable samples for tree-ring analysis. This analysis concluded that the roof of the EW range, fronting onto Whaft Lane (formerly Brewery Lane), is largely constructed of timbers which were all cut at the same time as each other, this felling took place at some time between 1480 and 1681. The roof of the NS range, fronting onto North Gate, and the stairs at the angle between the 2 ranges, including an unusual moulded post. This second main phase of felling took place in, or about, 1681. A further small amount of timber was felled at other times and probably represents reused and/or repair pieces. A single timber from the roof of the EW range has an estimated felling date of between 1455-60, while another timber in this roof, and two timbers in the NS range, have an estimated felling date in the years 1524-45. A single, clearly reused, timber in the roof of the NS range has an estimated felling period 1617-42. (3)
