Description

Remains of Parish church. C12 and C15. Ashlar, dressed stone and coursed squared rubble. West tower and chancel arch. West tower, 2 stages, has moulded plinth, string course and eaves band. To west, C15 triple lancet with chamfered and rebated reveal, splayed mullions and hood mould. Second stage has remains of 4 C15 double lancet bell openings with chambered and rebated reveals and coved hood moulds. Above, remains of gargoyles to north and west. Chancel arch, C12, has 2 vestigial engaged colonettes with square capitals. Tower arch, C14, double chamfered and rebated, with octagonal imposts, infilled with rendered brick. Tower chamber contains, to north, marble and slate wall monument, C18, with panel surmounted by a draped skull flanked by pilasters, and above, cornice and broken segmental pediment with central wreathed cartouche containing Arms.
