Description
Country house, now a community home. 1720, altered and extended late C19 and 1946. Built by the Lindley family. Brick with ashlar dressings. Roof, 1946, not visible. Chamfered plinth, rusticated quoins, eaves band, coped parapet. 2 storeys plus attics, 5 bays. Square plan. Windows are mainly C18 glazing bar sashes, those to attic storey being smaller. South front has off-centre doorcase with pediment and half-round steps. Flanked to left by a sash and to right by 2 sashes. Above, 4 sashes on each floor. East side has 5 sashes on each floor. West side has to left, late C19 2 storey addition with a double sash on each floor. To its right, mid C20 2 storey link with door and above it, a casement. To right again, 3 sashes and C20 door. Above, 4 sashes on each floor. South west side has 3 storey 2 bay addition, 1946, in matching style. North side has mid and late C20 flat roofed additions and stacks. Interior has dogleg stair in square well, with turned and twisted balusters and moulded ramped handrail. 2 rooms have full height fielded panelling and overmantels. One has Classical cornice. Hallway has Classical cornices and keystoned round arch with fluted pilasters. (NCC/js)
