Description
Miner's cottage, now a study centre, c.1880. Brick with slate roof. Chamfered plinth, dentillated first floor band and eaves. 2 grouped side wall stacks. 2 storeys plus garrets. Single bay, forming gabled end of a row. Windows are casements with chamfered segmental heads. South gable has a casement on each floor, diminishing in size upwards. West side has central lean-to brick porch with 2 casements plus door in return angle to right. Casement in return angle to left. Flanked by single casement. Above, 3 small casements. Rear has door with segmental head, flanked by single casements. Above, a casement on each floor. D. H. Lawrence lived here, 1887-1891, and the house is described in his novel "Sons and Lovers".
