Report planned for Newark Archaeological and Local History Society. (2)
Part Excav by Sulley, G. & Gorin, 1974. (3)
Excavations in the allotment area were conducted in 1973-4 by volunteers led chiefly by Mr S Gorin. 6 trenches of various sizes up to 5m square were distributed over a a roughly 50m square area between the bowling green and North Gate. Each trench was hand-excavated by spade to the level of natural gravel, generally about 0.5 - 0.7m below ground surface. The resulting surface was then cleaned and features recorded and then excavated. (4)
See E9376 for later trial trenches.
