Description

Coulthard, C.E. and the Nottingham Field Club took over from NAS (see E8970) until 1951 when these trial trenches were halted until a larger-scale excavation could be undertaken. During the excavations, two sites in particular attracted the excavators' attention: one was a shallow, roughly circular bank (L9342 - "Site 1" in 1953 exc) and the other was small mound in the adjacent field to the north (L8195 - "Site 2" in 1953 exc). (1) See E166 for later excavations at Sites 1 and 2.
