Description

Steetley Cave was discovered in 1976 during construction work at the brickworks. It is highly likely that the cave development continues for some distance into the limestone. Discovery of specimens followed by excavation, of the spoil heap and in the rear of the cave, where 10x20cm samples were extracted through the depth of the section. (1) See E8983 for geophysical surveys, E 8984 for trial pit, E9405 for excavation.
