Description

Trenches across known cropmark field boundaries were excavated to establish the depths at which archaeological features are preserved, depth and character of ploughsoil, the accurate position of ditches, the character and size of the cropmark features and whether small slots / ditches not detected by aerial photography or geophysics lie parallel to the field ditches. (1) See E9041 and E9042 for other trenches, E9040 for geophysics.
