Description

Trenches across known cropmark field boundaries were excavated to establish the depths at which archaeological features are preserved, the accurate position of ditches, the character and size of the cropmark features and whether small slots / ditches not detected by aerial photography or geophysics lie parallel to the field ditches. Three further trenches (L - M) [sic] were dug for identification of the ditch positions to check the accuracy of the cropmark plot. (1) See E170, E9045 for trial trenches, E9039 for geophysics, E9046 for fieldwalking.
