Description

Four trial trenches were excavated to investigate geophysical anomalies and cropmark features. Topsoil was stripped with a toothless ditching bucket on the back actor of a JCB, the exposed surface was shovel cleaned and examined before the removal of the subsoil in 10cm spits to the top of the natural sands and gravels or archaeological features. The trenches were then cleaned manually and recorded. (1) See E9051 for magnetometry, E9052 for resistivity survey.
