Four trial trenches were excavated to investigate geophysical anomalies and cropmark features. Topsoil was stripped with a toothless ditching bucket on the back actor of a JCB, the exposed surface was shovel cleaned and examined before the removal of the subsoil in 10cm spits to the top of the natural sands and gravels or archaeological features.
