Description

The purpose of the stage 1 excavations was to record features in the W part of phase 9. This comprised excavation of sections through the pits and ditches identified during the watching brief. Topsoil stripping In the E part of phase 9 revealed a number of features... the purpose of the stage 2 excavation was to record these features in more detail. Three areas were selected for excavation. Area 1, c.27 x 19m was cleaned. Area 2 (size of area cleaned not provided - DJB). Area 3 was not hand cleaned but cross-sections were dug through ditches which appeared to be prehistoric. (1) Grid ref centred, between Areas 1 and 2. See E9389 for topsoil stripping. Many events in East Leake Quarry, not listed here.
