Description

Two new areas were opened at the quarry, both adjacent to existing quarried areas. Removal of topsoil, and of a variable thickness of cultural subsoil, was monitored by the archaeologist on site. Stripping of soil was carried out by tracked 360 degree back acter excavators fitted with toothless ditching buckets. Cream Quarry, an L shaped area roughly 2800 sqm. No archaeological remains or evidence were visible in this area. (1) See E9434 for Best Red Quarry, E9410 for nearby geophysics.
