Description

Archaeological watching brief undertaken during Aug - Sep 2007 within part of the N extension of Kirton Quarry. Watching brief on the associated haul road took place in Sep 2006. Topsoil was stripped to subsoil level, across c.250m by 150m of the extraction area and also along a 600m strip for the haul road, by tracked 360 degree back actor excavators fitted with toothless ditching buckets. Subsoil was stripped to reveal the natural drift geology and underlying depositions of brickearth. (1) See E9408 for nearby watching brief and cross references.
