Full Description

The largest feature recorded during the watching brief was a pond - subsquare in plan and approximately 8 x 8m. The earliest fill comprised silty clay with waterlogged root / branch fragments and a single sherd of Midland Yellow jar, C16-C17. The pond may have been excavated initially for watering livestock or more likely for local clay extraction, as 4 more "ponds" have been noted in the area. (1)
