Description

The fieldwalking sampled an area c.30ha in extent. An intensive field survey had been intended over the two areas of higher sandy ground with rapid survey over the areas of deep peat beyond the outcropping sandy soils. The extent of crop growth resulted in a major problem with ground visibility. The intensive fieldwalking survey was undertaken on the basis of 10 x 10m squares within the numbered 50m grid squares. Intensive fieldwalking gave way to rapid fieldwalking on the W part of the sand ridge where crop growth would have given a negative bias to the finds distribution plot. (1) Grid ref centred. See E9419 for fieldwalking to north and cross refs, E8980 for geophysical survey.
