Description

A trench (60m x 3m) was positioned at right angles to the earthwork forming the Lincolnshire - Nottinghamshire county boundary. Removal of topsoil from the NW half of the trench (in Nottinghamshire - DJB) revealed subsoil with clear indications of allotment cultivation. Archaeological features were limited to an 11m band on the NW of the boundary bank, all were of recent (C19 - C20) date comprising field drains and a boundary ditch cutting the earthen bank. No evidence for the Roman road or related features was recovered. (1) NB Trench falls partially in Lincs. See E9518 for survey of county boundary, E9519 for earlier trenches, 90m to SW.
