As part of a desk-based assessment, a field survey was conducted at 16 out of the 26 towers along the route between West Burton and Cottam by AMEC in 2009 to assess the impact of refurbishment of the overhead line. Although no new features were identified, extant ridge and furrow and earthworks at Sturton-le-Steeple were visible during the visit. 7 of the towers were assessed as having significant potential for the works to impact archaeological remains at Sturton-le-Steeple and at Cottam.
