Description
The site comprises five buildings on the site of the former Magnus Grammar School, all of which were originally part of the school. Block A represents the original school building of the Tudor period, while
Block G, which forms the current street frontage, is a Regency extension. Adjoining them to the northeast is the 19th-century extension Block B, which was until recently in use as Newark Museum, while the late 19th to 20th-century Block D and the modern Block C are separate from the main school complex.
The report is based on information derived from a variety of sources: the County Historic Environment Record for Nottinghamshire, records held by the Newark Local Studies Library, archaeological and historical texts and unpublished material held by PCAS, material available for public consultation on the Internet, and a photographic survey carried out by the authors for a previous assessment of the same site.
