Description

A 'Dutch Head' type auger was used with up to 4m of extension rods. Auger holes were drilled every 100m along the transect line. Transect 2 showed thin peaty layers in cores 1-3. Core 4 had a dry peaty topsoil overlying 3m of peat, suggesting a palaeochannel cut into the edge of the floodplain, although no feature was identified from aerial photography.
