Title The Peaty Deposits on the East Bank of the River Idle, Between Mattersey Priory and Tiln Holt: A Geoarchaeological Assessment of their Condition
Author/Originator
Date/Year 1996

Abstract/Summary

Report on the results of an assessment of the peaty deposits on the eastern side of the River Idle. A programme of seven west-east auger transects across the valley bottom showed that the peat is spatially variable in thickness along the valley. The northern area is better preserved, the thickest deposits probably infill of palaeochannels. The southern area is less well preserved with thin mixed peaty deposits.
