Description

A 'Dutch Head' type auger was used with up to 4m of extension rods. Auger holes were drilled every 100m along the transect line. In transect 6, the only significant deposit of peat was in core 3. The sediment was mainly flood silts. Several pieces of Roman or medieval pottery and fire-cracked pebbles were noted on the ground surface between cores 1-3.
