Description

Pollen analysis of six samples. Sediments were collected in two 1.25 cm sections (with a 25cm overlap) using halved square drainpipes as monolith boxes and using the remaining half drainpipes as lids and then sealed in plastic bags. These monoliths were kept frozen until required. Slides were prepared using glycerine jelly and at least 300 grains counted per sample. The diagrams were drawn up as percentages of total land pollen, excluding aquatics, spores, and unidentified. At the site where the monolith was taken at the base of the palaeochannel cuts into the underlying late Devensian sands and gravels to a depth of 1.72 O.D. Six local pollen assemblage zones are identified from the 200cm section.
