Description

Three boreholes, seven trial pits, and nine geotechnic pits were excavated at Farndon fields in order to verify the presence of an Upper Palaeolithic site (which had been posited based on earlier archaeological interventions). There was no evidence to suggest an in-situ site, and no Upper Palaeolithic artefacts were recovered. Mesolithic-late Neolithic worked flint recovered which, along with Mesolithic-late Neolithic worked flint from previous interventions, suggests a long-lived prehistoric site that has since been destroyed by deep ploughing and bioturbation. Bulk and monolith samples were taken in order to assess plant macrofossils and sediments.
