he monitored groundworks consisted of the footings trenches for new buildings, a trench for a new length of garden wall between house plots 2 and 3, and the excavation of a length of drainage pipe trench running down the access road to connect to the existing sewerage system: the trenches were excavated under archaeological supervision, using a tracked 360° excavator fitted with a toothless bucket. No evidence for occupation of the site pre-dating the construction of the post-medieval farmstead was seen during the monitoring programme
