Description

The site lies in the Newark and Sherwood District, on the northern outskirts of Newark. It comprises an area of playing fields off Yorke Drive, bounded by housing to the west and south, and by industrial units to the north and east. The trial trenching comprised the excavation of six 50m long by 1.8m wide trenches in the north-east corner of the playing fields covering the Phase 1B area of the development. A seventh trench was dug on the west side of the playing fields in the area of the proposed new pavilion, to be constructed at a later stage in the programme of development. The trial trenching identified no finds, features or deposits of archaeological interest within the proposed development area.
