Description

The proposed development site is located on the western edge of Ranskill village, to the north of its historic core, on the west side of the Great North Road. The site is a long, narrow rectangle measuring 1.43 hectares, formerly the east side of a larger arable field. The evaluation comprised eight trenches. Originally intended to be 30m x 2m each, Trench 8 was shortened to 17m due to the foundations of one of the new dwellings lying across part of the trench. No artefacts or environmental samples were recovered during the evaluation. The archaeological evaluation was negative for any buried features or horizons
