Description
Portland Grange Farm, also known as Portland Fishing Lakes, lies on Longhedge Lane c.1km south of St. Peter’s Church. The Farm covers c.51.6 hectares of land on the northeast side of the road, with eight different lakes arranged along either side of a central access track leading to the existing clubhouse in the centre of the Site and beyond to an existing portal frame unit.
The footprint of the new building was marked out prior to any development groundworks and the areas stripped under archaeological supervision.
Excavations at Portland Grange Farm, Sibthorpe exposed a simple stratigraphy of a modern hardcore surface and made ground overlying the natural substrate. The site had been heavily truncated by modern activity and no original soils were present.
No archaeological features were identified, and no finds were recovered.
