Description

The site lies to the north-west of the village, to the immediate north of Retford Road. The site is bounded to the west by a hedge and fence line, Retford Road to the south, and open countryside to the north. The eastern side borders with a garden belonging to adjacent property The Priory, a Grade II listed building currently used as a special needs school. Five 30m trenches excavated in the open area of the former farmyard, where two buildings have recently been demolished. Machine excavated then hand cleaned and recorded. Three of the five trenches exposed archaeological deposits and features. This consisted of several modern pottery sherds. These deposits/features were of modern date, likely relating to the 20th century use of Priory Farm, and therefore of no significance.
