Description
The proposed development site, which covers an area of approximately 190 square metres, is located at Church Street, Sutton-on-Trent, Nottinghamshire. The site lies within the Trent Valley, c. 700 m due west of the River Trent and c. 12 km due north of Newark-on-Trent. The proposed development site is bounded to the south by Church Lane and by All Saints Church; to the east and north by existing dwellings; and the west by Church Street.
An intensive watching brief was conducted during intrusive groundworks associated with the current development. These comprised the removal of topsoil from the site, to a maximum depth of c. 0.10 m using a JCB 180 machine fitted with a toothless bucket; and the excavation of five, 1-m deep strip footings.
No archaeological features or artefacts were encountered during the intensive watching brief on the site of the former Church Hall, Church Street, Sutton-on-Trent, Nottinghamshire.
