The site is located at Church Gate Cottage, Church Gate, Colston Bassett, Nottinghamshire, NG12 3FP. The plot is roughly rectangular in shape and fronts onto Church Gate Road. The cottage is close to the southern boundary with a large garage to the rear. The archaeological watching brief was carried out at the development site between the 1st and 8th February 2021. The work comprised of the excavation of strip footings for an extension to the existing garage and reduction of the oversite. No archaeological features were identified within the monitored area. The naturalgeology did not appear to be truncated and had archaeological features been present it is likely that they would survive in good condition. Despite this area proving to be negative, archaeological potential remains high for the surrounding area.
