Description
The site is located 14km southeast of Mansfield and 10km northeast of Nottingham. The site is situated to the north of Park Road, the west of Flatts Lane and the south of Oxton Road. To the west and north, the landscape is rural in character, comprising of open, undeveloped land given over to agricultural use - predominantly pasture. To the south and east, the landscape is urban in character.
The area size is 2.7ha.
The site comprises, an open landscape given over to areas laid to managed pasture, used as paddocks. There is one building on the Site, the residential dwelling of Long Acre Lodge, off Flatts Lane - this dwelling comprises a detached residence with gardens and an access drive.
The trial trench locations have been designed to target the main areas of impact from the development and consists of twelve 30m x 1.8m trenches spread across the development area.
12 trenches were excavated.
Most of the trenches were negative containing sandy loam upper soils over a gravely mixed sand sub-stratum, with some trenches containing animal burrows and land drains.
Features were revealed in one trench. It contained a circular feature, possibly a pit, and a modern land drain. The pit, based on its character, may have a broadly prehistoric date.
No other features were revealed during the evaluation.
