Description

The site was located at Gateford Toll on the western edge of Gateford bounded by the B6041 Gateford Road to the north with the A57 directly west. The assessment area consisted of a portion (3.4ha) of a larger arable field. The field was one of two fields within a seventeen hectare assessment area covered by two heritage impact statements. Seventeen 30m long evaluation trenches were excavated across the site. All of the trenches were negative for archaeological remains, with one trench containing evidence for root action.
