Description
Farleys Farm is situated approximately 3km to the west of Tuxford and 15km southeast of Worksop in the Bassetlaw district of Nottinghamshire. The site is currently agricultural land to the north of Ollerton Road.
The strip, map and record part of the project was undertaken between 24th and 25th April 2019 and 23rd to 30th May 2019. Work took place within the footprint of the proposed poultry units, as well as a lagoon or pool area and groundworks for a new drain.
In the area of the poultry units groundworks entailed a ‘cut and fill’, ie removing excavated material from the lagoon area to raise the level of the poultry units. In these areas only surface vegetation was removed prior to building up. In the lagoon and trench for the drain topsoil, subsoil and other non-archaeological deposits were removed by mechanical excavator in spits not exceeding 0.1m thickness down to the first archaeological horizon, under constant archaeological supervision.
No archaeological finds or features were found during the strip, map and record.
