Abstract/Summary
A fieldwalking survey and strip, map and record was undertaken on land at Farleys Farm, Tuxford, Nottinghamshire, as a condition of planning consent for construction of new poultry units.
The site is located in an area where extensive prehistoric flint scatters have previously been recorded. Geophysical survey of the site identified only recent field boundaries and drainage features.
The fieldwalking found three fragments of worked flint, eight pieces of ceramic building material and five sherds of 16th to 17th century pottery.
The area of the poultry units was not stripped below the level of topsoil, as it was to be built up, therefore no archaeology was revealed.
A large trench was excavated in order to construct a new water pipe and a lagoon was also excavated and monitored, revealing no archaeological features or finds.
