Description
The site is located at Farndon Recreation Ground, a c.4ha plot of land fronting onto the A46 Fosse Road. The proposed new pavilion is to be at the southeast end of the recreation ground.
The test pitting methodology entailed hand excavation of six 1m x 1m test pits, located at 10m spacings in the location of the proposed trial trenches.
The test pits were accurately located using a survey grade GPS receiving RTK corrections. The upper turf layer was removed by hand. Each pit was hand excavated in spits of 100mm thickness, with all excavated material sieved for finds recovery using a 5mm mesh sieve.
The test pits and all resulting spoil were scanned with a metal detector to aid in the recovery of finds.
The evaluation did not reveal any features or deposits of archaeological interest.
