Description
Corner Farm is located in the northwest angle between the junction of High Street and Bawtry Road.
An area of ground was reduced over the footprint of the building, then footings were dug using a mechanical excavator. Following excavation, selected sides of the trench were cleaned.
The site lies adjacent to the line of the Roman road between Lincoln and York and close to the historic core of the village. However, no remains of Romano-British or medieval date were revealed during the investigation. Instead, the investigation revealed a single undated pit at the northern end of the site and a sequence of post-medieval to modern dumped deposits in the southwestern corner of the site. There were indications that the ground level may have been reduced in the post-medieval period.
There are three fragments of ceramic building material, including pieces from a single brick and a pantile. The items are of post medieval to early modern date.
