Abstract/Summary
A programme of monitoring and recording was carried at Corner Farm, Everton, Nottinghamshire. This was due to the archaeologically sensitive location of the site close to the historic core of the village and adjacent to the line of the Roman road between Lincoln and York via Littleborough, followed by the present day A631.
The monitoring identified a sequence of post-medieval to modern dumped deposits overlain by topsoil at the southwestern corner of the site. Across the rest of the site natural sands were overlain by a sequence of subsoil and topsoil to the north and directly by topsoil across the majority of the site. Where topsoil lay directly over natural it may indicate that the ground level has been reduced previously, perhaps during the post-medieval period when the farm was built.
A single undated pit, yielding no artefacts, was recorded at the northern end of the site, cut through the natural sand.
