Description

The site occupies a land bounded to northwest by Broomhill Lane and on the opposite side by a Cricket Ground. Ten trial trenches, each measuring 30m by 1.60m, were opened using an excavator with toothless ditching bucket. During the excavation the topsoil and the modern overburden were removed to expose the natural geological horizon. No archaeological activity had been recorded within the proposed development site and all the anomalies encountered in the trenches were interpreted as result of activities related to the former allotments. This evaluation clearly showed as very little is the potential for archaeological remains to exist within the investigated area.
