Description
The development site comprises land adjacent to Park Hall Farm, Park Hall Road, Mansfield Woodhouse, Mansfield Nottinghamshire NG19 8QX. It lies on the northwest edge of Mansfield Woodhouse. Total site area is approximately 5.4 hectares.
To investigate the site a trenching plan was proposed, which comprised of nine trenches measuring 30m x 1.8m. These were excavated in the northern half of the development area and were not targeted on any known remains and were therefore evenly distributed across the available area.
Of the nine trenches excavated during the evaluation, each proved to be archaeologically sterile. Modern made ground is most likely to have been associated with the current development on site, being recorded.
The absence of any pre-modern archaeological activity would suggest that the site was most likely unoccupied throughout its history and may have been used for agricultural and/or pasture purposes, although no evidence of furrows or other agricultural practices was observed.
