Description

The site is located 3km south-east of Pleasley and 3km south-west of Mansfield Woodhouse. The survey area is bounded to the south by Townroe Drive, to the west by houses off Abbott lea and to the right by The Flying High Academy. The study area totals 4.5ha. Magnetometer: Bartington Grad 601-2 - 1.0m traverse interval - 0.25m sample interval Magnetometer: Bartington Cart System - 1.0m traverse interval - 0.125m sample interval The magnetometer survey has not recorded any magnetic responses that could be interpreted as being of definite archaeological interest. Several discrete anomalies, trends and a segmented ditch-like anomaly have been recorded which have been assigned to the category of uncertain. They are likely to be due to a combination of modern processes while the segmented ditch-like anomaly could mark the location of a non-ferrous service pipe. A former field boundary and relatively modern ploughing is visible. The route of a service pipe has also been mapped. Numerous strong ferrous responses and zones of magnetic disturbance have been detected throughout the plot which are likely to have been caused by spreads of debris or foundations from the former Hall Barn, school and playing fields that were once located on the site. The former field boundary appears on the c. 1888-1913 Ordnance Survey map but not on the c. 1949-1972 Ordnance Survey map.
