Description

A Site visit and study area walkover was undertaken on the 11th February 2016 to view features identified within the project brief and which had been identified from the baseline sources as potentially being part of the historic landscape context of the medieval monastic use of the Rufford Abbey estate. The walkover was undertaken in sunny dry conditions with low sunlight. The Site visit and walkover included: the potential earthworks located along the northern extent of New Park Wood and Scotland Bank; earthworks within Beech Hill Wood to the south of Rufford Abbey; features within the former Deer Park to the south-east of Rufford Abbey which were identified by Professor Barley in his 1957 article; and a section of a ditch and bank earthwork located within a remnant of woodland to the south-east of New Park Wood.
