A metal detector survey of a 0.94 ha parcel of land located at Church Farm, Willoughby-on-the-Wolds, Loughborough, Nottinghamshire, LE12 6TD. The survey area was located 400 m north of the village of Willoughby on the Wolds and 14.5 km south of Nottingham, within a pasture field surrounded by agricultural land. A small stream marks the eastern boundary of the field. The metal detecting survey was undertaken in 2.5 m transects, ensuring full coverage of the survey area. XP Deus 1 and 2 wireless detectors were used, offering single and multifrequency detection. The metal detecting survey resulted in the recovery of eight finds (277 g). The finds are all of post-medieval/modern date, and none are relatable to the Battle of Willoughby. The assemblage is of limited further potential. The small group is dominated by modern fittings, including a copper alloy strap buckle, a strip, an undiagnostic circular component, and an aluminium cap, possibly from a bottle. An iron flange, possibly a floor flange type which secures pole-like objects, for example table legs, or an axle flange from machinery, including agricultural types, was also recovered. Two iron fittings, one perforated sheet fragment and one short bar with rounded terminals are broadly dated, falling within the post-medieval to modern periods (c.1500 to present). A fragment of an iron bar measuring 80 mm by 6 mm is undiagnostic and undated. The group is most probably fragments of agricultural equipment.
