Abstract/Summary
A metal detector survey was undertaken on a 0.94 hectare parcel of land, at Church Farm, Willoughby-on-the-Wolds, Loughborough, Nottinghamshire, LE12 6TD.
The survey area is located adjacent to the traditional location of the 1648 Battle of Willoughby.
The area was surveyed using metal detectors with sensitivity set as high as conditions allowed, and for detection of both ferrous and non-ferrous metals. Transects were set out 2.5 m apart, ensuring full coverage of the survey area.
Twenty-six metal artefacts were recovered; eight were retained for further analysis, 18 were discarded on site as modern debris. The retained artefacts were determined to be post-medieval or modern in date, although not related to Civil War activity.
