Description

The site comprises one area of grassland situated to the south-east of North Road on the north-western edge of Retford, north Nottinghamshire. The site is bounded by an adjacent railway line to the south-west, residential area comprising Brewsters Way and Firth Road to the south-east and an arable field to the north-west. The work involved the excavation of thirteen trenches, all of which measured 50m by 2m. This scheme of trial trenching was successful in monitoring the removal of topsoil and subsoil, where present, to assess the resultant areas for their archaeological potential. No archaeological deposits, features or finds were encountered during the evaluation. The archaeological evaluation indicates that there is limited potential for archaeological remains to be found within the proposed development area.
