Description
The site lies between the cul-de-sacs of Rio Drive and Nixon Way, an area measuring approximately 2.6 acres. The southwest of the site is currently occupied by various derelict buildings, a relic of its former use, while the north-northeast part of the site is more open. The northern boundary is a hedgeline and drainage ditch that effectively defines the northern limit of the village.
Archaeological monitoring was carried out during the demolition of the extant buildings and the removal of their foundation slabs. The evaluation took place following demolition works. Nine trenches measuring approximately 20x2m were excavated across the site using an excavator fitted with a toothless ditching bucket under archaeological supervision. Overburden was removed to the natural horizon in spits no more than 0.20m deep.
The evaluation did not expose any archaeology. A made ground deposit identified in the southwestern part of the site was associated with the construction of the pre-existing
building.
