Description

The site, which measures approximately 7.59ha, is currently utilised as agricultural land, and is bounded by Brick Kiln Lane, Abbott Road and further agricultural fields. Fourteen trenches measuring 40m x 2m were located and levelled using a Trimble GPS Rover. The trenches were positioned to assess anomalies highlighted in the results of the Geophysical and also areas thought to be devoid of such features. The Archaeological Evaluation has highlighted a lack of archaeological activity within the site boundary, with geophysical anomalies being associated with variations in underlying natural deposits, agricultural activity and modern features such as land drains. Natural deposits were identified across each trench, with no archaeological finds, features or deposits present. It is considered likely that geophysical anomalies relate to agricultural features and variations in underlying natural sand deposits.
