An Archaeological Evaluation by Trial Trenching was carried out by MAP Archaeological Practice Ltd., on land off Brick Kiln Lane and Abbot Road, Mansfield, in January 2025. The Trial Trenching, which followed a Geophysical Survey, consisted of the excavation of fourteen trenches which were positioned across the site in order to assess geophysical anomalies and also areas supposedly devoid of such features. Natural deposits were identified across each trench, with no archaeological finds, features or deposits present. It is considered likely that geophysical anomalies relate to agricultural features and variations in underlying natural sand deposits.
